Become our next Artist-in-Residence!
By Monica Trinidad
Director of Strategic Communications, Third Wave Fund
Can you imagine our movements without vibrant posters filling the streets at our marches and rallies? Or what about the signs of solidarity in our neighbors’ windows that ease our minds and bodies on our walk home?
As someone who has made art to support liberation movements for over ten years, I know exactly how integral artists can be to visibilizing our collective power. I even co-wrote a guide on how we (organizations and artists) can best harness the power of culture together to transform the world!
But beyond simply aesthetics, when we’re given the space, time, and most importantly, the resources to collaboratively create, artists can offer transformative ways to communicate stories, ideas, and solutions that grow our movements and shift narratives.
Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to design an artist-in-residence program at Third Wave Fund, where I’ve led our communications work since 2017.
There weren’t many funders with in-house artist residencies to look to for guidance, so I reached out to a friend, incredible artist and designer Chi Nwosu, to embark on this pilot program with us. Chi was critical in bolstering our EOY fundraising efforts with irresistible illustrations and thought-partnership on our key messaging. Thank you, Chi!
Now, we’re excited to find our next Artist-in-Residence to collaborate with, and we’re accepting applications through Thursday, May 13, 2026.
The Artist-in-Residence program at Third Wave Fund is an annual, paid, and virtual residency supporting an emerging visual artist in strengthening their practice of creating art for social change. The artist will support Third Wave Fund’s visibility and engagement as a by-and-for community funder, amplifying our vision of gender justice and liberation, and mobilizing our network of activist donors. The artist will collaborate with Third Wave Fund on two digital illustrations and a short-form, animated reel to bolster our storytelling and fundraising efforts on our digital platforms.
At Third Wave Fund, art—and artists—will never be an afterthought in our efforts towards justice and liberation. If you’d like to support our work, consider becoming a monthly donor today!
